Fox Run Vineyards Wines Win Awards
"FOX RUN VINEYARDS WINES WIN AWARDS" Dry Riesling wins Double Gold and gets a perfect score
PENN YAN - April 15, 2009 - Appellation America's Best-of-Appellation awarded Fox Run Vineyards 2007 Dry Riesling a Double Gold and gave it a perfect score.
"A spectacular assembly of flavors which is a little closed just now and promises great development for a number of years. Dense complex aromas of apple blossom, lilac, jasmine, violet, and gunpowder green tea. The mouth is racy and vibrant, with laserlike tight/bright green apple and lime, with a flinty, cucumber finish. The entire panel gave this wine a perfect score."
They also awarded Gold medals to Fox Run's 2007 Gewürztraminer, 2006 Reserve Chardonnay, 2006 Pinot Noir, 2005 Reserve Cabernet Franc.
Other recent awards include Gold for Fox Run's Sable from Florida State Fair International Wine Competition.

Dundee, NY -March 4th, 2009 - Spring is almost upon us, thus Fulkerson Winery is pleased to announce the release of our delicious and refreshing 2007 Traminette. The 2007 Traminette vintage is a semi-dry white wine. The Traminette grape is a hybrid created in 1968 at the Geneva, NY Cornell Experimental Research Station. Traminette is a hybrid of Gewurztraminer and Joannes Seyve 23.416 and is distinguished by its superior wine quality combined with good productivity, partial resistance to several fungal diseases, and cold hardiness superior to its acclaimed parent, 'Gewürztraminer'.
Fulkerson Winery was one of the first in the world to grow Traminette and make a wine from this wonderful grape variety. In fact the 2007 Traminette vintage is our eleventh consecutive release.

Finger Lakes Riesling - taste characteristics of the wines
APPELLATION AMERICA, a unique and comprehensive approach to describing and covering the wine industry, is now focusing on an ambitious project involving Finger Lakes Riesling, and how specific vineyards locations affect the taste characteristics of the wines. Leading the project is the ebullient Clark Smith, who already has had over 125 wines evaluated by a tasting panel and is now working on detailed analyses of the precise locations where the grapes were grown. All of this detective work will eventually lead to several major articles on the regional diversity of Finger Lakes Rieslings, and their "terroir" driven causes. The New York Wine & Grape Foundation, Cornell University, and Cornell Cooperative Extension have all been involved in this ambitious project, which will be discussed in more detail on April 2 at the Wine Industry Workshop in Ithaca. One of the most helpful resources, developed by Dr. Alan Lakso and his colleagues under a grant from the New York Wine & Grape Foundation, has been a space-based, color-coded mapping of New York State based on decades of temperature data as well as soil composition indicating the most promising areas for growing grapes. Dr. Tim Martinson of Cornell Cooperative Extension also provided a lot of information during the tasting panel's evaluations in late January. Appellation America's evaluation process is very different from other wine critiquing systems by focusing on the unique regional characteristics consumers can expect from an area based on both natural and human factors. The "Best of Appellation" status goes to wines which best embody the regional signature, rather than being based on a 100-point scale. Results of their tastings will be discussed in a future Wine Press.
Released in the New York Wine & Grape Foundation's, February 28, 2009 Wine Press.
Glenora Wine Cellars Wins Double Gold Medals
Glenora Wine Cellars Wins Double Gold Medals, Dundee, New York
In February, Glenora Wine Cellars received four Double Gold medals and three Gold medals in the Best of Appellation Evaluation respectively for their Dry Riesling, Riesling, Merlot, Pinot Blanc, Vintner's Select Dry Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and Method Champenoise Brut.
The Best of Appellation evaluation (BOA), a service of Appellation America from Napa, California, focuses more on the origin of the grapes and the character of the appellation. The wine is judged against other wines from that specific area.
"This is another example of how important the relationship with our grape growers is," said Steve DiFrancesco, Winemaker at Glenora Wine Cellars. "Their critical thinking, strategic planning, and hard work in their vineyards are paramount in producing these award winning wines." Glenora Wine Cellars has been in the wine industry for over 30 years producing award winning high quality wines.
